Sprawl

Sprawl is a photographic series spanning decades, created through the interplay of evolving tools and mediums—120 film, medium format digital, and Polaroids—mirroring the evolution it seeks to explore. Inspired by readings on the accidental ascension of Homo sapiens to dominance in the animal kingdom, this body of work examines the traces we leave behind in our environment. These marks, both deliberate and incidental, assert our presence with a thoughtlessness akin to that of a dog marking a fire hydrant.

Through a lens of curiosity and critique, Sprawl captures the absurdity of humanity's relationship with its surroundings. It reflects on our casual disregard for the interconnectedness of life, juxtaposing moments of quiet observation with evidence of our relentless claims on the world. The series is a meditation on evolution, hubris, and the unnoticed comedy of human existence within the natural and built environments.
